Description

Description

Hydroquinone is used as a reducing agent and finds applications in black and white photographic developers for film and paper along with 4-(methylamino)phenol sulfate (metol). In this application, silver halides are reduced to elemental silver. It acts as a polymerization inhibitor which prevents polymerization of acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, cyanoacrylate and other monomers. It undergoes mild oxidation to convert into parabenzoquinone. It is also used as an intermediate to produce antioxidants for rubber and food.

Aplicaciones
La hidroquinona se utiliza como agente reductor y en el revelado de fotografía en blanco y negro para películas y papel junto con el sulfato de 4-(metilamino)fenol (metol). En este uso, los haluros de plata se reducen a plata elemental. Actúa como un inhibidor capaz de prevenir la polimerización del ácido acrílico, el metacrilato de metilo, el cianoacrilato y otros monómeros. Al sufrir una oxidación suave, se convierte en parabenzoquinona. También se utiliza como intermedio en la producción de antioxidantes para el caucho y los alimentos.

Solubilidad
Soluble en agua, metanol, etanol, éter dietílico, acetona, benceno y tetracloruro de carbono.
