MES is used as a buffering agent in biology and biochemistry. It is utilized for resolving very small proteins on bis-tris gels. It is mainly used as a biological buffer in plant cell cultures. Buffer solutions are used as a means of keeping pH at a nearly constant value in a wide variety of chemical applications.

Aplicaciones
Se utiliza MES como agente tamponador en biología y bioquímica. Se utiliza para resolver proteínas muy pequeñas en geles bis-tris. Se utiliza principalmente como tampón biológico en cultivos de células vegetales. Las soluciones de tampón se utilizan como medio para mantener el pH a un valor casi constante en una amplia variedad de aplicaciones químicas.
